In addition to 10 days of community service, Quintin Alec-Manning of Brick Township was sentenced to two years probation for the crime, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The prosecutor's office had sought a 90-day jail sentence, he said.

Alec-Manning was sentenced on Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan, who also said that the defendant cannot own or work with animals during his probation.

On May 29, 2019, Toms River police were notified that a motor vehicle struck five geese in the parking lot of the Indian Head Plaza in Toms River, causing their death.

An investigation identified Alec-Manning as the driver who purposely hit the geese with his motor vehicle, Billhimer said.
